mission |
The La Luz del Oeste Foundation exists to promote the long-term sustainability and preservation of the historic modern-architectural adobe community and its common land (of seventy acres) called La Luz del Oeste and to conserve the surrounding open space through education programs and civic outreach.
|
vision |
The vision of the La Luz Foundation is to foster new relevance for this historic project by employing climate-conscious principles to preservation and conservation — semi-permeable paving, greater use of solar, water reuse — and through interactive programming to include educational opportunities on the benefits of earth architecture, ecological design, adobe construction, and this innovative planned community that respects land use by conserving open spaces with community-managed cluster housing.
|
goals |
The Foundation’s aims are education, outreach, and innovation: e.g teaching children about ecosystems and building materials, offering hands-on opportunities for learning about sustainable design, providing new solutions for reducing water in an arid climate, and the value of retaining open spaces. Potential projects include development of a solar microgrid, water-permeable solutions to replace asphalt, more efficient fountains, to fund and build a La Luz library and meeting place for lectures and research on planned communities and ecological design.
